American football

The History of America's favorite sport.

The history of American football is a rich one filled with great games, legends, and athletes that not only make you chuckle but also make you sit back and watch the game unfold.

American football vs rugby

From being played by Native Americans in the early 20th century to playing professional football during a massive period in time in the 1960s. From being kicked out of stadiums after getting caught stealing balls and running over the ball, to finally becoming part of an all-American football team that won the Super Bowl in 1990. The game has evolved from simply kicking the ball around to something more complex, thanks to fans who buy tickets for those amazing games and have now become a major part of it, both as supporters and participants, and now some just say that they love watching football.
In my opinion, there are three main reasons why I believe it was so much fun when we first started watching football (myself included)

The most obvious reason was that when I was a kid, the stadium was always full of huge families playing together and everyone had their own little league team.

This meant that at any given moment I would see players playing on my side or on the other team, and sometimes I would find myself along for the ride in the stands. After about two years of watching my parents play football every Friday night, I came to realize how lucky I felt seeing teams from different backgrounds get together and share an overall good time. Not being able to go to that experience anymore, I soon began to look for ways to continue growing a passion for football without having to be able to play. One way I did this was by joining a local team for practice and seeing so much cool stuff like this...

Nowadays many people still come to play for these small leagues or even try to compete in them,

but the biggest thing that sets NFL apart from your average college football coach is the fact that they do not have a bowl game. Teams are never stuck in debt and if a bad season comes that year, they will not have to pay huge sums of money to play it out in a third-tier bowl game. With that said, NFL is definitely the most unique type of sport out there right? It makes sense why the game became so popular. There are no championships to win and no big trophies to celebrate. But, as long as the players get to show their talent every day, and the atmosphere of the game is unmatched, then it can truly bring joy and happiness to everyone involved. All this just goes to show us that football is not just for kids anymore, and the world needs to learn how to appreciate each other better than ever before.

On another note, American football today

I have learned quite a bit about being healthier than many people think. I think football was the perfect way on which to teach that lesson.
Also, in the last few weeks, I've seen people start drinking alcohol before kickoffs. Now, there's nothing wrong with enjoying yourself after being knocked down. But, there are many other things that come with doing that,
such as eating poorly, smoking, and sleeping poorly. You can also gain weight over time during practices and you can possibly miss game days, causing injury to become a regular occurrence. When the player loses a toe, they can become extremely swollen causing inflammation to occur, and end up having to take a couple of surgeries that leave them severely limited in mobility. Injuries happen in sports all the time, and oftentimes, they can cause more problems not only for the physical body of a player but for their mental health, too. If someone wants to lose a leg, they can become depressed, unable to function, and eventually, mentally unwell. Although athletes are usually responsible for their actions when they get hurt, I could imagine how a career could suffer as a result of something that they took for granted instead. And, so should us.

We need to stop holding onto certain things we take for granted. Don't forget that football is a competition and the best teams win. As far as the athletes themselves, they deserve our respect, too. They go into a season knowing that they are going to risk everything, but are doing well enough to win and that when they win they will be rewarded with some form of joy or accomplishment in their lives. At least that's what I hope to teach football because life can be hard sometimes. To be fair, there aren't really a ton of times where I feel guilty or ashamed (which I'm sure it's not my fault) about what I put myself through for my favorite pastime.
