3 facts from his past that show us his true colors

3. A War Crime in Chechnya While fighting for Russia, Vladimir Putin oversaw what could be called a war crime in his home country, where he was stationed as an officer. On January 13th, 1999, Russian troops were sent into Chechnya and began shelling with heavy artillery near a hospital (White Noise). They later allowed civilians (including children) to leave—only after seeing who they were—willing to let them die outside of their control. The result?


2 times Russia has tried to hide the truth

The Independent Tribunal Investigating War Crimes in Georgia (ITIWIG) is responsible for trying cases concerning war crimes committed during and after the 2008 Russo-Georgian War. The second involves former Russian military commander Col.-Gen. Yuri Budanov, who was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in 2006 for a war crime against an anti-Taliban fighter, then was pardoned by Russian President Vladimir Putin just two years later.

After he entered Crimea, Putin called for a peaceful referendum vote among Crimeans. This was clearly only for show and did not represent his true intentions for invading Crimea. This is because Russia does not recognize Ukraine’s sovereignty over Crimea and has already announced that it plans on annexing Crimea.
